Non-judgmental, one of my favorite myths.

A very dear friend of mine wrote this. I liked it so much I wanted to share.

==============================

Non-judgmental, one of my favorite myths.

No one is non-judgmental, we judge everything and every one all the time. We as human beings judge each other every day. We judge whether someone is fat or skinny, short or tall, attractive or unattractive, scary or kind. We judge whether or not we want someone to be our enemy, our fiend, our lover, whether we hate them, like them, or love them, based on their presentation, the decisions they have made, the actions they have taken, and our internal instincts.

It is, I think, safe to say we would not date a rapist or have a pedophile baby sit our child. Those are rather obvious judgments we make. We also make judgments about who we let drive our car, have keys to your home, give our credit card number to, or who we let our children be friends with. All this is being judgmental, judging people based on their merits and our experiences. So those that say they are not judgmental are at best delusional and at worst hypocrites. Those that tell others to not be judgmental are usually those that have made grievous, stupid, or numerous mistakes and bad decisions and want some kind of free pass from the scorn and responsibility that should rightfully go with those decisions.

None of us are perfect, we all make mistakes. Some people make more grievous mistakes than others, out of ignorance or stupidity, or malice, and those are the ones we tend judge the most harshly, and avoid interaction with. To be non-judgmental would be to have no judgment at all and therefore not discern right from wrong, good from bad, wise from stupid, and that is the worst kind of judgment of all.
